Forrest Gump Point
and
Highway US-163

CM1_5976.jpeg

As I was driving to Forrest Gump point on US-163 I came upon this set of spires.  This was about one-half hour after sunrise.  Therefore this scene was still painted by the red light of the rising sun.

Forrest Gump Point is located on US Highway 163 Scenic Drive (also known as Forrest Gump Road or Forrest Gump Highway), in Mexican Hat County, just outside of Monument Valley.  At this location in the Navajo Reservation, with majestic Monument Valley as a backdrop, Forrest Gump suddenly finished his ultra-ultra marathon of more than 15,000 miles in the 1994 movie starring Tom Hanks.

This is a another photo from "Forrest Gump Point."  This one was taken further along Highway US-163.  If you look closely, on the right side of the highway, just past the shadow, you will see a roadside turnout.  Picture #5976 (above) was taken from that turnout.
