This trip to Joshua Tree NP was taken with the express purpose of doing some night photography. This picture was taken at approximately 7:30 on an October night. The glow you see above the horizon are the towns of the Coachella Valley (Indio, etc.)

This tree is called Elmer's tree. It was named after a former park ranger and this thought to be over 500 years old.
